Choking occurs when an object, usually food, becomes lodged in a person’s airway, partially or completely blocking airflow. It’s a medical emergency that requires immediate and deliberate action. Recognizing the signs and knowing what to do in those critical seconds can save a life. This guide outlines practical, step-by-step first aid interventions based on current medical guidelines. 1. Recognize the Signs of Choking The first step is to identify if someone is truly choking.
